A recent study published in the British Journal of Surgery by Nichole Starr, M.D., MPH and a team of researchers at Lifebox, showed a dramatic reduction in the risk of surgical site infections (SSIs) after implementing Clean Cut, a quality improvement program that helps surgical teams address the causes of SSIs. Nichole Starr, M.D., MPH, a general surgery research resident, was awarded an NIH Fogarty Global Health Scholars Fellowship for the 2020-21 year. Dr. Starr will spend her fellowship year at Addis Ababa University in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia under the mentorship of Milliard Derbew, M.D., Tom Weiser, M.D., MPH, Andi Tenner, M.D., MPH, and Doruk Ozgediz, M.D., MSc. Her research will focus on building and implementing trauma quality improvement programs in Ethiopian public hospitals. The American College of Surgeons recently announced that M. Margaret Knudson, MD, FACS, Professor of Surgery and trauma surgeon at the San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center, has joined the Division of Member Services of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) as Medical Director for the Military Health System (MHS) Strategic-ACS Partnership.
