Salvador was raised in Oakland, California, and attended Yale College, where he studied both biology and archeology before ultimately receiving a B.S. in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology in 2000. He then went on to attend medical school at the UCSF, where he obtained his M.D. in 2004. With a strong interest in pursuing a surgical career, Salvador remained at UCSF to continue as a General Surgery resident. He has quickly gravitated towards an interest in pediatric surgery, appreciating both the technical challenges, as well as the privilege of treating children and their families. Salvador joined Dr. Wang's laboratory in July of 2007, taking a hiatus from his clinical training to pursue academic science, primarily focusing on embryological development. More specifically, Salvador has expressed an interest in Notch signaling with respect to artery and vein morphogenesis. With this invaluable experience in the lab, Salvador plans to complete his senior residency years, and obtain a pediatric surgery fellowship, with the ultimate goal of continuing both clinical and scientific interests throughout his career.
